The ZM Industrial Operations Building is located on the southwest corner of a fuel tank terminal in the industrial district of Lusaka, Zambia. A busy and chaotic traffic of trucks, vans and bicycles runs along the unpaved road leading to the site. The dynamic activity of this road is made visible inside the site through a visible permeable boundary. An abstract piece with a square floor plan is proposed, alternating opaque and transparent façade fronts. Although the piece is apparently similar in its different faces, each opening gives access to a different environment and opens views towards different areas. On the ground floor, access is through a covered entrance hall facing east, while on the opposite façade there is a covered terrace space. On the upper level, a double-height work space opens to the north, towards the fuel terminal while, again on the opposite façade, the meeting rooms are oriented towards the urban traffic. In section, each level is resolved with clearly differentiated heights. On the ground floor there is a compression that seeks a relationship with the immediate surroundings, while the upper level of greater height is related to a more distant environment; with the horizon. The surrounding vegetation is intended as a transitional space between the industrial environment and the workspace. The building is located next to a large tree in the southwest corner which articulates the space around the building and gives it a more welcoming and friendly quality, linked to the lush nature of the country. An enclosure made of large aluminium Z-profiles refers to the industrial environment while at the same time reacting to the reflections and gleams of the surrounding vegetation. Lusaka's stormy climate makes the perception of the building very changeable. In a matter of minutes the building can be silhouetted against an intense blue sky emphasising its vibrant skin or it can be blurred in the heavy grey of storm clouds.

El Edificio ZM de Operaciones Industriales se encuentra en la esquina suroeste de una terminal de tanques de combustible en el distrito industrial de Lusaka, Zambia. Un intenso y caótico tráfico de camiones, furgonetas y bicicletas discurre por la calle sin asfaltar que da acceso a la parcela. La actividad dinámica de esta vía se hace visible en el interior de la parcela a través de un límite permeable a la vista. Se plantea una pieza abstracta de planta cuadrada que alterna frentes de fachadas opacas y transparentes. Aunque la pieza es aparentemente similar en sus distintas caras, cada apertura da acceso a un entorno distinto y abre vistas hacia áreas diferentes. En planta baja, se realiza el acceso a través de un zaguán cubierto orientado a este, mientras que en la fachada contraria se plantea un espacio cubierto de terraza. En el nivel superior, un espacio de trabajo en doble altura se abre a norte, hacia la terminal de combustibles mientras que, de nuevo en la fachada contraria las salas de reuniones se orientan hacia el tránsito urbano. En sección cada nivel se resuelve con alturas bien diferenciadas. En planta baja se ejerce una compresión que busca la relación con el entorno cercano inmediato, mientras que el nivel superior de mayor altura se relaciona con un entorno más lejano; con el horizonte. La vegetación circundante se plantea como un espacio de transición entre el entorno industrial y el espacio de trabajo. El edificio se ubica junto a un gran árbol situado en la esquina suroeste el cual articula el espacio en torno al edificio y le confiere una cualidad más acogedora y amable, ligada con la exuberante naturaleza del país. Un cerramiento formado por grandes perfiles en Z de aluminio remite al entorno industrial al mismo tiempo que reacciona a los reflejos y los brillos de su entorno vegetal cercano. El clima tormentoso de Lusaka hace que la percepción del edificio sea muy cambiante. En cuestión de minutos el edificio puede quedar perfilado contra un intenso cielo azul enfatizando su vibrante piel o bien puede quedar difuminado en el gris pesado de las nubes de tormenta
