The new Courbet College is designed as urban equipment that integrates into the surroundings from a series of structuring, coherent and harmonious volumes that complete the college district. A clear organization in three connected volumes is presented, according to the three basic programs (college, library, and sports hall).
The school, four levels above ground, is embodied in a central square floor volume. On the ground floor, there are common uses and those that serve the neighborhood outside of school hours. This level is connected to the library through a covered passage and to the sports hall through an intermediate access hall.
The fragmentation of the volume built in three parts reduces the scale of the whole and promotes better integration into the existing urban fabric. The relative position of the buildings has been carefully studied so that the gap between them is of adequate scale. A sequence of public spaces of different sizes effectively connected and the neighborhood environment is proposed, generating a safe entourage that promotes gentle traffic and meeting spaces.
The space bounded by the three buildings defines the main outdoor courtyard concerning the North-South pedestrian circulation axis which unites the station with the city center and which conforms to a welcoming urban space for the children and the inhabitants of the city. . To the North is defined a court of smaller dimensions connected with the biggest one, whose utility is minor and can be used by the smaller children.
Special consideration has been given to the treatment and organization of existing and new green areas. On the one hand, the magnificent existing green area has been respected as much as possible and at the same time new roads, benches, and passable surfaces of water-permeable materials have been raised, which improve the pedestrian connection between the area near the Temple of the Place des Anciennes- Fossés and the new buildings. This operation allows the new Courbet school to be integrated into a complete and harmonious way in the existing fabric.

El nuevo Colegio Courbet se concibe como un equipamiento urbano que se integra en el entorno a partir de una serie de volúmenes estructurantes, coherentes y armónicos que completan el barrio universitario. Se presenta una clara organización en tres volúmenes conectados, según los tres programas básicos (colegio, biblioteca y pabellón deportivo).
El colegio, de cuatro niveles sobre el suelo, se materializa en un volumen central de planta cuadrada. En la planta baja se sitúan los usos comunes y los que dan servicio al barrio fuera del horario escolar. Este nivel está conectado con la biblioteca a través de un pasillo cubierto y con el pabellón deportivo a través de un vestíbulo de acceso intermedio.
La fragmentación del volumen construido en tres partes reduce la escala del conjunto y favorece una mejor integración en el tejido urbano existente. La posición relativa de los edificios se ha estudiado cuidadosamente para que el hueco entre ellos tenga una escala adecuada. Se propone una secuencia de espacios públicos de diferente tamaño conectados eficazmente y el entorno del barrio, generando un entorno seguro que promueve un tráfico suave y espacios de encuentro.
El espacio delimitado por los tres edificios define el patio exterior principal relativo al eje de circulación peatonal Norte-Sur que une la estación con el centro de la ciudad y que conforma un espacio urbano acogedor para los niños y los habitantes de la ciudad. . Al Norte se define un patio de menores dimensiones conectado con el mayor, cuya utilidad es menor y puede ser utilizado por los niños más pequeños.
Se ha prestado especial atención al tratamiento y organización de las zonas verdes existentes y nuevas. Por un lado, se ha respetado al máximo la magnífica zona verde existente y, al mismo tiempo, se han levantado nuevos caminos, bancos y superficies transitables de materiales permeables al agua, que mejoran la conexión peatonal entre la zona cercana al Templo de la Plaza de los Antiguos Fossés y los nuevos edificios. Esta operación permite que la nueva escuela Courbet se integre de forma completa y armoniosa en el tejido existente.
